Discover the Islands of Sacred Earth

The National Park of American Samoa warmly welcomes you into the vibrant heart of the South Pacific, inviting you to explore a remarkable world filled with unique sights, captivating sounds, and extraordinary experiences that you will find in no other national park in the United States. Nestled some 2,600 miles southwest of Hawaii, this breathtaking destination stands as one of the most remote national parks in the entire United States, offering visitors a chance to connect with nature in a truly unparalleled setting.

You will not find the usual facilities commonly found in most national parks. Instead, with a bit of the explorer’s adventurous spirit, you will have the opportunity to discover secluded and charming villages, along with an array of rare and unique plants and animals. You will also encounter stunning coral sand beaches, and enjoy breathtaking vistas that showcase both land and sea. The national park encompasses sections of three picturesque islands – Tutuila, Ta’u, and Ofu. Almost all of the land area of these volcanic islands – from the towering mountains to the pristine coast – is covered by lush rainforest. Additionally, about 4,000 acres of the national park is situated underwater, located just offshore from all three islands.

The NPS Visitor Center and exhibit is conveniently located in Pago Pago, directly across from the well-known yellow Pago Pago Way gas station. Park Rangers are readily available to assist you in planning your visit to the beautiful National Park. The exhibits on display feature an extensive range of natural and cultural resources that highlight the unique heritage of American Samoa. Additionally, a small bookstore offers a variety of educational materials and thoughtful gifts for visitors. The Center operates from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and remains closed on weekends and Federal Holidays. Outside of the usual operating hours, the Center will be open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on days of visiting Cruise Ships.
